NAMAKKAL: A woman and her two-year-old grandson died after the car they were travelling in with other members of the family collided with a truck near Rasipuram in Namakkal district on Wednesday night.The deceased have been identified as Amudha, 52, of Nagiyampatti near Thammampatti in Salem district and her grandson, Niksith, 2.The accident happened around 10.30pm when Amudha her husband Natesan, 60, their son N Praveen, 32, daughter-in-law Gomathi, 30, and grandsons Jeevith, 3, Niksith were returning home after visiting their family deity’s temple near Tiruchengode on the occasion Aadi Amavasai. Praveen was driving the car.“Amudha and Niksith died on the spot while the others suffered serious injuries,” said an officer at the Namagiripettai police station.On being alerted, police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Rasipuram Government Hospital. Later, Praveen and Natesan were shifted to a private hospital in Salem for advanced treatment.The bodies of Amudha and Niksith were sent to Rasipuram Government Hospital for postmortem.Police registered a case.
