DHARMAPURI: The Jaganmohini cave in Hogenakkal has become visible once again as the flow in the Cauvery river has reduced further. The cave, which was created by carving a rock for the 1978 Telugu movie Jaganmohini directed by V Vittalacharya, has become a tourist attraction once again. Hogenakkal falls, located in the Dharmapuri district, attract many tourists. The inflow at Hogenakkal has been very low for the past few months compared to last year due to non-release of water from Karnataka dams. While the inflow stood at 20,000 cusecs during the same period last year, it has just 300 cusecs now. As a result, the waterfalls have dried up, leaving only bare rocks visible. “With the water levels dropping drastically, the Jaganmohini cave, which usually remains submerged under the swirling waters, is visible now,” said K Manikandan, a coracle rider at Hogenakkal. He said, “The cave got its name from the Telugu movie Jaganmohini. A special cave resembling a ghost was carved on the rock for the movie. Visitors can enter up to 10 meters inside the cave ” he said.
