DVAC inspector suspended for seeking bribe during vigilance inquiry

Chennai: A woman police inspector attached to Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) was placed under suspension on charges of demanding bribe from a person against whom she was conducting a preliminary vigilance inquiry. A DVAC DSP, Jayakumar, suspected to have colluded with her has been transferred to the Nilgiris district.Police sources said inspector Vimala had recently been inducted into the anti-corruption agency and had been assigned to conduct a preliminary inquiry against a govt official. During the course of the inquiry, she reportedly demanded the bribe. The misconduct was detected during internal monitoring. The issue was reported to DVAC director A Arun by deputy director DIG N Devarani.A detailed inquiry was conducted, and the findings were submitted to DVAC headquarters. Subsequently Vimala was placed under suspension.
