30 sovereigns of gold and diamond jewellery, Rs 2 lakh in cash stolen from house in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: An unidentified person stole 30 sovereigns of gold and diamond jewellery and Rs 2 lakh in cash from a house at Nethra Nagar near Kalapatti in the city on Saturday.The Peelamedu police said the thief entered the premises when the house owner, N Kuppusamy, 70, was sleeping in a room. On Saturday morning, Kuppusamy noticed that the valuables had been stolen from a bureau after the clothes kept in it were thrown inside the house. He filed a complaint with the Peelamedu police.A sniffer dog and fingerprint experts visited the scene and lifted fingerprints from the house.The house is located at the end of a colony, and there are bushes behind it. “The thief entered the house using a key that was left by the house owner in the inside lock of the door. The thief managed to take the key through a window, opened the door and later stole the valuables that were kept in the bureau,” said a police officer.“As per the statement of the house owner, a total of 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery, including diamond jewellery, along with cash, was stolen from the house. The theft is believed to have happened between 11.30pm and 1.30 am, and we are examining CCTV footage,” the officer added.
