DHARMAPURI: A 50-year-old woman was hacked to death by a youth near Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district on Friday night. Police arrested Kumaravel, 21, of Irangkattu Kottai on charges of murdering S Lakshmi, 50, of the same area.Lakshmi, who separated from her husband, was living alone at her house in Irangkattu Kottai.On Friday, a heated argument broke out between Lakshmi and Kumaravel due to their previous animosity. Later, around 10 pm, Kumaravel, who was drunk, attacked Lakshmi and hacked her repeatedly with a sickle. Lakshmi, who sustained grievous injuries, died on the spot.On being alerted, the Pennagaram police rushed to the spot, recovered Lakshmi’s body and sent it for a postmortem.Police registered a case and launched an investigation. A sniffer dog was brought to the crime scene to gather clues. During interrogations, Kumaravel confessed to murdering the woman, according to police. He was booked and remanded in judicial custody.
