COIMBATORE: A wheelchair-friendly aquatic therapy and wellness centre, aimed at expanding access to water-based rehabilitation, was opened in the city on Friday.Dr Chandran’s AquaCare has been designed as an inclusive facility catering to persons with disabilities and others requiring aquatic rehabilitation, mobility support and wellness services. The wheelchair-friendly pool enables people with mobility challenges to access therapy in a safe, supportive and dignified environment. The facility is equipped with specialised hydrotherapy equipment to harness the therapeutic benefits of water. The buoyancy of water reduces the load on the body and can facilitate movement, while aquatic therapy can help improve mobility, balance, muscle strength, flexibility and coordination, according to a statement from Swarga Foundation (an NGO) that opened the facility. The centre is also designed to cater to senior citizens and pregnant women. It provides a supervised environment for aquatic therapy and adaptive swimming.Among its features are a waterfall and rainfall facility intended to enhance relaxation and sensory experiences. A dedicated jacuzzi has been installed to support relaxation, pain relief and overall wellness. The centre uses a natural salt chlorination system, in which chlorine is generated from salt through a salt-water chlorination process, reducing the need for conventional direct chlorine dosing.
