Chennai: With only two days left for the first ssembly session, chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Tuesday inaugurated a two-day training programme for MLAs of all the parties in Chennai. MLAs of DMK, AIADMK except one, and DMDK boycotted the training programme. The event was organised by the state Assembly department. On the first day, the MLAs were given training on assembly proceedings and procedures. The second day will have sessions on various govt departments, their functioning, roles and responsibilities.Addressing the MLAs, assembly speaker J C D Prabhakar said the MLAs should use the assembly library and read r the speeches of leaders. “You should know what former CMs like C N Annadurai and K Kamaraj and Communist leaders spoke in the assembly. It will sharpen your oratorical skills and help you deliver better speeches,” Prabhakar said.Emphasising the significance of assembly proceedings, Prabhakar said events that happened inside the assembly have even led to change in govts. “For instance, in 1972 we know how MGR (former CM M G Ramachandran) was treated in the assembly after he formed AIADMK. As a result of those events, people started developing a positive opinion on MGR, resulting in his govt formation. Similarly, in 1989, (former CM) J Jayalalithaa was attacked. After the incident, we know what happened. A single incident can bring a party to power and can remove a govt from power,” Prabhakar said.Prabhakar called the TVK govt `Vijay model’ govt. “I am calling this govt Vijay model govt because the agenda of the govt is to keep Tamil Nadu as a land of peace where there is no place for caste and communal polarisation,” Prabhakar said.
