COIMBATORE: AIADMK leader and former deputy speaker of the Tamil Nadu assembly Pollachi V Jayaraman has said the TVK govt cannot back out of its electoral promises by citing the state’s poor financial condition.Speaking to reporters after a consultative meeting of the AIADMK Coimbatore suburban south district executives held at Mannur near Pollachi on Thursday evening, Jayaraman said it had been two months since chief minister C Joseph Vijay assumed office after making a flurry of grand pre-poll promises. “Everyone in Tamil Nadu is aware that the state is burdened with a debt of more than Rs 10 lakh crore. The chief minister knew the economic reality of the state very well when he promised a Rs 4,500 monthly allowance for unemployed graduates, six free LPG cylinders per year and a complete waiver of agricultural loans,” Jayaraman said.He added that the public had not forgotten these assurances and was actively waiting for their implementation. “The govt cannot now try to placate or pacify the public by simply saying the financial situation is bad,” he said.Jayaraman noted that the ruling party had not secured an absolute majority on its own, securing only 107 seats, and had to form the govt by pooling support from MLAs who had contested in the opposition DMK alliance.Responding to ongoing political speculation that the AIADMK might join hands with the DMK to form an alternative alignment, “AIADMK and DMK will never unite, nor is it ever possible. These are completely fabricated stories being spread intentionally. The path of the AIADMK is entirely different from the path of the DMK,” he said.Earlier, during the consultative meeting, he appealed to party members to work tirelessly and without fatigue for the upcoming political challenges.
