Chennai: A day after Supreme Court asked Tamil Nadu govt to change its “mindset” against Hindi and Navodaya Schools, leader of the opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Friday said Tamil Nadu was not against any language and did not function as a separate country. He said the state did not want Navodaya schools and, if necessary, a special assembly session could be convened to pass a resolution against them.Tamil Nadu follows a two-language policy and has remained at the forefront in several areas, including higher education enrolment and women’s participation in the workforce. “Without learning Hindi, many Tamilians have carved a niche for themselves, from winning Nobel Prizes to becoming eminent scientists at ISRO. This clearly indicates that Tamil Nadu is not at a disadvantage because of not knowing or learning Hindi,” Udhayanidhi said in a statement.Citing the SC’s recent observations in connection with Navodaya schools, Udhayanidhi said the TVK govt was also following the state’s two-language policy and had rejected the three-language policy.“The seed of the two-language policy was sown by Perarignar Anna (C N Annadurai) in this (Tamil) land. Cutting across political lines, we all should come together to uphold the state’s policy in the SC and stop the Navodaya schools that impose the three-language policy,” he said.
