TNPDCL assistant executive engineer arrested for accepting Rs 90,000 bribe near Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Friday caught a Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) official red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000 in Coimbatore.The arrested has been identified as M Kathirvel, who was working as an assistant executive engineer at the TNPDCL office in Chinnavedampatti near Saravanampatti.According to DVAC sleuths, the complainant, Deepan, was involved in installing solar panels. He approached Kathirvel to sanction net meters for 60 kilowatt panels. However, Kathirvel demanded Rs 1,500 per kilowatt and asked Deepan to pay Rs 90,000 to sanction a net meter for 60 kW.Unwilling to pay a bribe to Kathirvel, Deepan lodged a complaint with the DVAC on Thursday. Following this, DVAC officers set a trap to nab the AEE who demanded the bribe. DVAC officers gave chemical-laced currency notes to Deepan and instructed him to hand them over to Kathirvel. On Friday, Deepan reached Kathirvel’s office and handed over the money to him. DVAC personnel, who were present at the office, caught Kathirvel as he accepted the bribe money. The DVAC registered a case against Kathirvel.
