CHENNAI: It was all smiles for students of classes 6-8 at Gandhi Gramam Middle School on Tuesday as chief minister C Joseph Vijay kick-started the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast scheme.Serving pongal, sambar and sweet at the launch, chief minister also had breakfast with the students.A total of 217 students had breakfast at the school on Tuesday.The scheme, which was extended to classes 6-8, is expected to benefit 15.30 lakh students across the state.A total of Rs 217 crore was allocated for the extension of the scheme, implemented by the social welfare department, this financial year.After breakfast, the CM interacted with rest of the students at the school.“The CM asked me my name and my section, enquired about my studies. He also waited patiently to talk to me till I finished my prayer before eating,” S Tharshini, class 7 student said.Ministers N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna and Rajmohan accompanied the CM.
