COIMBATORE: Minister for prohibition and excise K Vignesh on Saturday justified the suspension of Tasmac employees for overcharging customers buying liquor. The minister said the govt had given the employees a salary hike and other benefits like advances and shop maintenance charges. “Even after this, if employees are demanding extra money from customers, then it’s not right. So, we have taken action,” the minister said.At the same time, the minister said he didn’t believe in punishment to correct people.The minister was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a newly constructed siddha outpatient building on the Pollachi Government Headquarters Hospital premises in Coimbatore district. Vignesh and minister for backward classes welfare V Sampath Kumar jointly inaugurated the building which was built at a cost of Rs 55 lakh. A battery-powered vehicle donated by an NGO was handed over for public use at the hospital.Sampath Kumar said chief minister C Joseph Vijay was implementing many welfare schemes for all sections of society, positioning Tamil Nadu as a leading state nationwide. He noted that hostels for backward class students were being upgraded and quality food was being provided. He said staff and doctor vacancies would be filled swiftly.Earlier, Sampath Kumar unveiled a rekla race statue at the Gandhi Statue roundabout and a coconut tree sculpture at the Old Bus Stand roundabout.
