COIMBATORE: Students should always protect the unity and integrity of the nation, said Vice-President of India CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport, Radhakrishnan said, “Today, India is in a position to dictate the terms and give a fitting reply to international forces, which is possible only through unity.”Radhakrishnan was in the city to inaugurate the GKNM College of Nursing at Pappanaickenpalayam.Later, while addressing the audience during the inauguration of the nursing college, he said, “Though this institution has presently inaugurated the nursing college, I wish this further expands to establishing a medical college. When we say medical college, it is not about revenue but about creating qualified doctors with a service mindset. Be it any country, nurses from India will definitely be there.”He further said, “In terms of healthcare, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ayushman Bharat scheme is applauded by various countries. When affordable healthcare for senior citizens was hard to access, many revolutionary initiatives were introduced, enabling people from all walks of life to buy medicines.”In his address at the event, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said nursing is not a Western concept but is part of India’s heritage and culture, where service to society has been the core ideology of this profession. “Manav Seva is Madhav Seva, which means the service to mankind is equal to service to God,” he said.
