Chennai: Assembly speaker J C D Prabhakar asked MLAs to uphold the dignity of the House and refrain from making remarks that invite censure or must be expunged from assembly records.Prabhakar said the live telecast of assembly proceedings had generated an interest in politics among youngsters. “They asked me why certain remarks were expunged. I request members to speak in a manner that maintains the dignity of the House,” he said.He also asked ruling and opposition whips to ensure that members did not make aggressive gestures during proceedings.DMK MLA E V Velu said members raising hands or moving towards the front desk do not amount to a violation of House rules.In a lighter vein, Prabhakar said he was ready to permit everything “except sitting on the speaker’s chair as has happened earlier”. He was referring to the dramatic scenes during the confidence motion against the Edappadi K Palaniswami-led AIADMK govt on Feb 18, 2017.
