Chennai: Tamil Nadu State Information Commission pulled up the revenue officers of Sholinganallur taluk and South Chennai revenue divisional office for non-compliance of the commission’s orders even after a year in connection with different second appeals and complaint petitions.Information commissioner P Thamarai Kannan (since retired), in his orders dated June 11, has given one last chance to the appellate authority (Sholinganallur tahsildar) to comply with the orders and submit a report in person on July 27.The appellate authority has also been ordered to submit the then public information officer’s explanation for not furnishing the information sought under RTI and why ₹25,000 should not be levied as a penalty on the PIO apart from departmental action for their inaction.The appeals and complaints had been filed by different individuals D Kumar, C Kumar, Khaja Moideen, Vimal, James Victor Raj, V Ramakrishnan. While their original petitions were dated back in 2023, the commission had in 2025 ordered the public information officer of Sholinganallur tahsildar office to furnish the information.However, the PIO had not fulfilled the orders even after a year and it came to light during the latest hearings in the cases. Condemning the public information officer for non-compliance of the orders, the commission also expressed displeasure over the RDO, Chennai South, for not conducting an internal inquiry on the issue as instructed by commission. The RDO too has been ordered to submit their explanation for ignoring the commission’s orders by July 27.
