Krishnagiri: A major mishap was averted, after a private school bus carrying more than 20 children brushed against some dangerously low-hanging power cables in J Chettipalli village, near Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri district, on Tuesday morning.Eyewitness said when the bus passed through the village, it came in contact with some low-hanging cables, causing an electric pole to tilt and the cables to fall across the road. “Frightened students screamed in panic, while some local youths promptly rushed to the nearby transformer and switched off the power supply, averting any untoward incident,” said M Sundar, a villager. He added that everyone on board the bus escaped unharmed.Meanwhile, residents said they had for long been complaining about the damaged electric pole and sagging wires and repeatedly urging the electricity board to replace them. Following the close shave involving the school bus, locals renewed their demand for urgent repairs and warned that negligence could lead to tragedy.
