ERODE: A remand prisoner escaped on Tuesday night while police were taking him back to the Coimbatore Central Prison after producing him before a court in Salem in connection with a case. The escaped remand prisoner has been identified as K Naresh Kumar, 30, who was arrested for issuing death threats to some people. On Tuesday, Salem armed reserve police escorted him from the Coimbatore Central Prison to the Salem court for a hearing in the case. “After he was produced before the court, he was taken back to Coimbatore in a police vehicle. While travelling on the Salem-Kochi National Highway, they stopped near Sulli Palayam in Erode district to have tea. Naresh Kumar pushed police forcefully, injuring one of them, and escaped under cover of darkness,” said an officer at the Perundurai police station.Following a complaint lodged by the Salem armed reserve police, the Perundurai police launched an intensive search operation to nab him.
