COIMBATORE: A sub-inspector and a head constable attached to the Pollachi East police have been placed under suspension for taking a bribe from a man.According to police sources, the issue relates to an alleged extramarital relationship involving Mukesh of Pollachi and a woman. The two were allegedly staying in Coimbatore. A few days ago, the woman’s husband brought her back home. However, Mukesh continued to create problems, following which the woman and her husband attempted suicide by consuming poison. They were admitted to district headquarters hospital in Pollachi for treatment.Following this, Pollachi East police summoned Mukesh for an inquiry. During the inquiry, sub-inspector Johnson allegedly warned him not to create further trouble for the couple. He demanded and received Rs 5,000 from Mukesh. However, information about the bribe was leaked to the public. Following this, on Sunday night, head constable Nagarajan contacted Mukesh over the phone and told him that the SI had asked him to return the money. The audio record of the head constable talking to Mukesh surfaced in social media.In the audio clip, Nagarajan is heard asking Mukesh about his location and urging him to collect the money. Mukesh, however, says he is outside and will leave for Coimbatore in the morning. He further says he does not want the money back and only wants the issue to be resolved.Mukesh is also heard claiming that the woman had told him that she was unmarried. He says he would not create any further problem.Following this, Coimbatore district superintendent of police A Pavan Kumar placed both the cops under suspension.
