PM Modi opens projects worth Rs 13,000 crore in Tamil Nadu; CM Vijay says TVK govt wants to make state $1.5 trillion economy by 2036

CHENNAI: The TVK govt has set a goal of making Tamil Nadu a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036, chief minister C Joseph Vijay said on Sunday. Vijay said his govt is trying to provide a corruption-free and inclusive governance.The chief minister was speaking at an event in IIT Madras where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched various infrastructure projects worth Rs 13,000 crore, including phase II of Chennai Metro Rail project and others completed by highways, ports, railways and other ministries.Vijay thanked the PM for inaugurating projects. He urged Modi to approve phase III of Chennai Metro Rail project and reconsider metro rail projects for Coimbatore and Madurai cities. He sought support for the interstate metro rail project for Bommasamudra in Karnataka and Hosur in Tamil Nadu.His other demands included the Centre’s approval for the Godavari and Cauvery linking project, making Tamil official language of the Madras high court, high speed corridors between Chennai and Coimbatore, and Chennai and Kanyakumari and release of pending dues for Samagra Shiksha scheme.In his speech, the Prime Minister said the Centre would extend all help to keep Tamil Nadu growing. The PM said the new projects launched on Sunday would ease transport and give more jobs to youngsters in Tamil Nadu. Modi said in the past 12 years, the metro rail services expanded to 25 cities and the length of services increased from 250 km in 2014 to 1,100km in 2026.“We are taking Tamil Nadu’s development journey forward with CM Vijay,” PM Narendra Modi said.
