NAMAKKAL: A third-year pharmacy student died by suicide in her hostel room at a private college in Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district on Thursday.The deceased student, identified as Rachel, 21, daughter of Velu from Chengalpet district, studied at Excel College of Pharmacy. Police recovered a diary from her room with an emotional note written in blood and addressed to her boyfriend. “Preliminary investigations suggested that she might have taken the extreme step due to a failed love affair,” Kumarapalayam deputy superintendent of police Gauthaman said.Police said Rachel had not attended classes for the past two days and remained in her hostel room. On Thursday afternoon, she had lunch with her friends and returned to her room. In the evening, when her roommates came back after classes, they found the door locked from inside. They broke it open and found Rachel hanging from a ceiling fan.The college administration alerted the Kumarapalayam police. A team led by the DSP reached the spot and sent the body to Government Medical College Hospital, Perundurai, for postmortem.Police seized her mobile phone to examine messages and call records.A case was registered.
