Perambur torso case: wife of victim, boyfriend sent to police custody

Chennai: A magistrate court in Chennai sent Raheema Khatun and her boyfriend Ashraf Ali to three days of police custody in connection with the murder of her husband Ameer Ali, whose torso was found inside an abandoned suitcase at Perambur railway station on June 5.Immediately after the order, police brought the duo to the Otteri police station for interrogation. They also took the accused to Thomas Street in Teynampet, where the murder and dismemberment of the body were believed to have taken place, and conducted a reconstruction of events.The case came to light on June 5 when railway police found a torso packed inside a suitcase at Perambur railway station. After an intensive investigation, police identified the deceased as Ameer Ali, a native of Assam. Further inquiries revealed that his wife, Raheema Khatun, and her boyfriend, Ashraf Ali, were involved in the murder. Police said the victim’s head, hands, and legs were severed after the killing in an attempt to conceal his identity.The hands and legs were dumped in Buckingham Canal in Teynampet, while the head was buried near Kolavai Lake close to Chengalpet railway station. Following their arrest, the accused were remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Puzhal prison. Later, the Otteri police filed a petition before the Egmore court seeking custody of the accused for further interrogation.
