CHENNAI: A 21-year-old Nepalese undertrial prisoner, who escaped from Puzhal-II Central Prison on Tuesday by scaling a 23-foot-high compound wall, was caught near a tea shop in Anna Nagar on Thursday morning. Prison officials said the prisoner, K Sujith Buhari, told them he had escaped out of frustration because nobody had visited him in prison.Acting on a tip-off, a team of prison officials traced Sujith to a tea shop near Thirumangalam in Anna Nagar around 7.30am and secured him. He was subsequently taken back to Puzhal prison, where officials questioned him about his escape.Preliminary inquiries revealed that Sujith had used an earthing cable running from a watchtower towards the compound wall to facilitate his escape. Sources said he used loops in the cable to climb the 23-foot-high wall before fleeing the prison premises. They added that no guard was posted at the watchtower at the time of the incident.Following the escape of two prisoners in separate incidents within 24 hours, prison authorities formed more than 14 special teams to trace them. While Sujith has been caught, the search continues for another prisoner, a convict in a POCSO case, who escaped from a prison-run bazaar on Wednesday. Police and prison officials are conducting a joint search to trace him.
