NEET aspirant dies by suicide near Salem over fear of re-exam

SALEM: A 20-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide at her grandmother’s residence at Vellalapuram near Konganapuram in Salem district on Friday.The deceased has been identified as S Kobika, who passed Class XII with 440 marks in 2024. She was a student at Fort Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School.Kobika, daughter of V Sekar and S Bhuvaneswari of Erumapalayam, unsuccessfully attempted NEET twice.“My daughter was preparing for the NEET UG re-examination scheduled on June 21 at her grandmother’s house at Vellalapuram. She took the extreme step due to fear of failure and anxiety,” Sekar said.The Konganapuram police rushed to the house and recovered the body. The body was sent to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem. A case has been registered.
