Chennai: Two days after a man died by jumping in front of a moving train near Tambaram Sanatorium railway station, his 52-year-old mother killed herself at her residence in Thiruneermalai on Saturday.Gayathri lived on South Mada Street and earned a livelihood through a flower business. Her husband had died six years ago due to an illness. Her only son Balaji, who had completed an ITI course and worked in the construction sector, was married and lived with his wife and two children in Pazhanthandalam. Two days ago, he died after coming in front of a Chennai Beach–Tambaram suburban train near Tambaram Sanatorium railway station. Preliminary inquiries indicated that he had been facing family-related issues.Family members said Gayathri was deeply affected by her son’s death. Accompanied by relatives, she even visited the railway track where the incident occurred and returned home in distress. Relatives stated that she remained withdrawn and avoided interaction with others after returning.When Gayathri did not come out of her room for an extended period on Friday, relatives and neighbours broke open the door and found her hanging. On information, the Shankar Nagar police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Tambaram district govt hospital for postmortem.
