COIMBATORE: A 17-year-old boy was on Thursday night detained on charges of murdering his friend’s father who warned him not to hang around with his son.The Singanallur police said the minor boy, who was working at a local mill after completing Class X, was friends with the son of Manikandan, 49, a resident of Neelikonampalayam. Manikandan reportedly disapproved of their friendship as the teenager frequently visited his house and took his son out.On Thursday, Manikandan confronted the juvenile, asking why he was leading his son astray, a police officer said. “A heated argument broke out between them, during which the teenager picked up a brick and struck Manikandan on the head. Manikandan sustained severe injuries and collapsed. Neighbours rushed him to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.”When alerted, Singanallur police registered a murder case and sent the body for postmortem. They secured the 17-year-old boy, who was subsequently lodged into a juvenile observation home.
