Chennai: Two days after being assaulted by his own son over a domestic dispute at their house in Ayodhya Nagar in Triplicane, a 56-year-old man died at a private hospital on Sunday. Police have now altered the case from attempt to murder to murder and arrested the son.The deceased, Kumar, worked as a traffic signal technician at Chennai Port and lived with his wife, Amudha. His son Tamilselvan, 34, had been living separately following his divorce in 2026. According to police, Kumar and Tamilselvan often quarrelled over family issues. On Aug 19, Tamilselvan went to his father’s workplace, where some of Kumar’s colleagues questioned him about his frequent arguments with his father.The next day, when Kumar was alone at home, Tamilselvan returned and picked up an argument with him. During the quarrel, he assaulted Kumar, causing severe injuries. Kumar was taken to a private hospital, where he died on Sunday. Following his death, police altered the case from attempt to murder to murder and arrested his son.
