COIMBATORE: The Thudiyalur police in the city have registered a case against a real estate broker and a self-proclaimed advocate for defrauding a local real estate businessman of Rs 60 lakh under the pretext of selling a parcel of land in Sivaram Nagar near Ramanathapuram here.The victim has been identified as V Jeganathan 42, residing near the govt women’s ITI in Cheran Nagar in the city.According to police, Saravanan, a real estate broker based in Edaiyarpalayam, and Venkatachalapathy of Peelamedu, who claimed to be an advocate, approached Jeganathan offering to sell approximately eight acres of land in Sivaram Nagar. The duo represented that they held authority to sell several valuable properties belonging to an individual named Narayanasamy Naidu through a will.Believing their representations and relying on documents presented by the duo, Jeganathan transferred Rs 10 lakh to Venkatachalapathy’s bank account on Jan 20. He subsequently paid an additional Rs 50 lakh in cash as advance money.The duo promised to execute the sale deed within a month but failed to do so and avoided returning the funds. On June 25, when Jeganathan confronted them and demanded the refund of the total Rs 60 lakh advance, they verbally abused him using filthy language and issued death threats.Realising that he had been cheated using forged documents, Jeganathan lodged a complaint with the Thudiyalur police on Thursday. Police registered a case against the duo and began investigations.
