Israel’s military said on Sunday (September 20, 2026) it had arrested a man suspected of killing an Israeli, reported to be a settler, in the occupied West Bank.
“IDF soldiers apprehended the terrorist who carried out the shooting attack,” the army said in a statement, adding that it located him at a hospital.
The army said a soldier had earlier shot and wounded the suspected assailant at the scene of the incident near Ramallah in the central West Bank.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed to hunt down the man suspected of the “murderous attack”.
A local hospital confirmed the death of the Israeli.
Israel Ganz, head of the Yesha Council- an organisation representing Israeli settlements in the West Bank-said the man was a settler.

Israeli settlers violence
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. More than 500,000 Israelis live in settlements in the Palestinian territory, which are illegal under international law, among some three million Palestinians.

According to an AFP tally based on data from the Palestinian health ministry, Israeli forces or settlers have killed more than 1,100 Palestinians in the territory since the start of the Gaza war.
Israeli figures show at least 49 Israelis, including civilians and security personnel, have been killed in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military operations during the same period.
