Chennai: A day after electricity minister R Nirmalkumar objected to governor Rajendra Arlekar’s review meeting with district officials, the governor said on Saturday that people could visit Lok Bhavan to register their grievances and that he would do his best to address them.Speaking at a book release event at Lok Bhavan, Arlekar said his office would stand with the people. “You can come here and tell your problems. Whatever is possible on my side, we will be doing it. Lok Bhavan is always with the people. Don’t feel hesitant,” the governor said.Arlekar, who was in Madurai on Friday for an event, said youth should be mobilised to rejuvenate the Vaigai river and that Lok Bhavan would take the lead in restoring the waterbody, if necessary. He said the river’s rejuvenation was also the responsibility of the people and that action must be taken. Later, district officials met the governor at the govt guest house. Though the administration issued a statement at night describing the meeting as a “courtesy call,” Nirmalkumar opposed it, saying the governor did not have the authority to summon officials. He also asked officials not to cooperate. On Saturday, Arlekar said he would seek the cooperation of the TVK govt if it wanted to work for the welfare of the people. “I will certainly see that if the govt wants to work for the people, I will contact the chief minister and will inform the plight of our brothers and sisters. I will tell them this is to be done. We will work for solution. If you have certain expectations from governor and govt, you can tell us. We will do it together,” Arlekar said.
