COIMBATORE: An eight-year-old female elephant was found dead in the Manambolly range of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) near Valparai on Wednesday night.The carcass was found by forest field staffers during a routine patrol near Murugan Estate. A postmortem was performed on the carcass on Thursday by ATR veterinary assistant surgeon Dr T Meiyarasan in the presence of Manambolly forest range officer K Giridharan and Ganesan, a volunteer from the Nature Conservation Foundation.The postmortem report indicated that the elephant had died due to health complications arising from a severe digestive disorder.Forest officials stated that vital organ samples were collected and sent to a laboratory for further forensic analysis to rule out any other underlying causes. After postmortem, the carcass was buried in a deep pit.
