Chennai: Former minister S S Sivasankar and DMK organisational secretary R S Bharathi on Friday alleged that the TVK govt has renamed the Thayumanavar scheme launched by former chief minister M K Stalin to deliver ration commodities at the doorsteps of senior citizens and persons with disabilities.Addressing reporters at Anna Arivalayam, Bharathi said the Nilgiris district administration had issued a statement where the term `Thayumanavar’ was dropped while mentioning about the scheme. Bharathi alleged that the TVK govt was renaming existing scheme due to its inability to launch new schemes or fulfill its electoral promises. He added that the ruling party was attempting to erase M K Stalin’s legacy from public memory, but would fail.Sivasankar said the TVK administration felt threatened by the popularity of DMK-era initiatives such as the CM Breakfast Scheme, Vidiyal Payanam, and Naan Mudhalvan. He said that removing ‘Thayumanavar’ from the doorstep ration scheme was part of a systemic effort to rename DMK initiatives. “Such attempts to undermine the previous government’s achievements would backfire,’’ he said.
