Chennai: DMDK MP L K Sudhish called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his office in New Delhi on Monday and requested him to prevent Karnataka from constructing a dam at Mekedatu. In a statement, DMDK said Sudhish had submitted a memorandum to Modi urging the Union BJP govt not to give the nod to Karnataka govt for the dam which would be detrimental to the farmers of Tamil Nadu. “Sudhish also appealed the Centre to take steps to ensure that Karnataka govt releases the due share of water to Tamil Nadu,” DMDK said. The party further said Sudhish had also demanded the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna on DMDK founder Vijayakant. The meeting had come as a surprise as DMDK was part of the DMK front in the assembly election and was critical of the BJP. While chief minister C Joseph Vijay had written a letter to Modi seeking his intervention in the Mekedatu row, none of the TN leaders, except Sudhish, have so far met the PM in connection with the issue.Ends
