Krishnagiri: Contract workers at the Exide battery manufacturing unit in Sevaganapalli village near Hosur in Krishnagiri district held a protest on Monday demanding a wage hike.The factory employs more than 700 permanent staff and nearly 2,000 contract workers. Contract workers said while permanent employees had received a salary revision recently, they continued to earn only Rs 590 per day — amounting to Rs 14,000–Rs.15,000 per month.On Monday morning, contract workers gathered at the factory gates, refusing to enter the premises. As a result, operations were disrupted and production stalled. The management invited representatives of the workers for talks. Police from Bagalur station arrived at the spot to monitor the situation and facilitate negotiations.Police said discussions between the management and the workers were on to resolve the issue.(Photos: S Parthiban)
