COIMBATORE: Coimbatore corporation commissioner Katta Ravi Teja on Monday called up on the newly joined undergraduate students to develop their talents at college and learn effective communication skills.Addressing an orientation programme for first-year undergraduate students of arts, science and commerce streams at Government Arts College (Autonomous) in Coimbatore, Ravi Teja appealed to students to adapt to a new place and environment and handle the transition from school to college life with independence and responsibility. He said students should focus on completing their degree successfully, develop individual talents and learn to communicate effectively.He asked students to take part in co-curricular activities like sports, music, drawing, singing and dance alongside academics. He said students should build self-confidence and maintain strong interest in their chosen paths. He encouraged students to attempt competitive examinations including UPSC and TNPSC exams.According to principal Dr M R Yezhili, the college offers 23 undergraduate programmes in Shift I and Shift II, with a total first-year intake of 1,727 students. Shift I classes will be held from 9am to 1.30pm while Shift II will run from 1.45pm to 6.30pm.The programmes include BSc (Blended) Physics, BSc (Blended) Chemistry, BSc (Blended) Biosciences, BPED, BVoc in Multimedia and Animation and BVoc in Business Process and Data Analytics.
