COIMBATORE: The Periyanaickenpalayam police in Coimbatore district arrested a man on charges of posting derogatory comments about Hindu deity Lord Murugan on social media.Police arrested Michael of Rakkipalayam based on a complaint filed by M Shankar, who is the Narasimhanaickenpalayam union general secretary of Hindu Munnani. He alleged that Michael, through posts on Instagram and Facebook, used offensive words and made disparaging remarks targeting Lord Murugan that could disturb public peace and incite religious tension.Based on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested Michael, who is a TVK supporter.Cases were registered against Michael in several districts on the same issue, police sources said. Officials from the respective district police units have contacted the Coimbatore district police to coordinate efforts to arrest him.
