Chennai: Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) will offer certificate courses for school maths teachers to help them teach maths innovatively. It has signed an MoU with ThinkMath Foundation (TMF), a non-profit initiative, to spread maths education through unconventional modes among students and teachers.The collaboration aims to improve maths competency of school students by increasing the effectiveness of maths taught in schools.“The goal is to train educators in modern pedagogical techniques and make resources available to them for more meaningful teaching. TMF will also contribute to the mathematics resource centre that is being set up at CMI’s new campus in Siruseri,” said director of CMI Madhavan Mukund.He added that school students studying in Classes VI to XII will be invited to the maths museum that is to be set up on the new campus. They will also be involved in activities that would allow them to experience different facets of maths in a tangible manner and explore the world of mathematics.Further, CMI is also conducting a residential camp for students from city schools during the summer vacation to train them in advanced maths.
