Chennai: A probe into the suspicious death of an armed reserve sub-inspector at his Nungambakkam residence took a turn, with police arresting his wife for setting him on fire with petrol.Raji, 58, was found dead with burn injuries at his residence in Lake Area on Saturday. Nungambakkam police registered a case of suspicious death and questioned his family members.During the investigation, police grew suspicious after his wife, Selvarani, gave contradictory statements. Further questioning revealed that she had poured petrol on Raji and set him on fire with the help of her friend, Deva.Police arrested Selvarani and launched a search for Deva, who is absconding. Police are questioning Selvarani to establish the motive for the murder.Raji was booked under the Pocso Act in 2025 by Thousand Lights All-Women Police for sexually harassing a five-year-old girl.
