KRISHNAGIRI: A schoolboy drowned while swimming in a farm well near Kelamangalam in Krishnagiri district on Wednesday evening. The deceased has been identified as M Prasad, 12, of Koottur village who was a Class VII student at a panchayat union middle school in Chettipalli. On Wednesday evening, Prasad was returning from school with his three friends. “The boys decided to swim in a farm well. While swimming, Prasad entered a deeper part of the well and drowned,” said an officer at the Kelamangalam police station. Shaken by what had happened, the other boys went back home without telling anyone. When Prasad had not returned even by late evening, his worried parents searched for him throughout the village. “Our fears grew when we noticed his footwear lying near the well,” said K Ramesh, a relative. A fire and rescue services team from Denkanikottai reached the spot and retrieved Prasad’s body around 10pm on Wednesday. The body was sent to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The Kelamangalam police registered a case.
