DHARMAPURI: A seven-year-old boy died after falling into the gap between a moving train and a platform at Dharmapuri railway station on Wednesday morning.The deceased has been identified as Yasiriyan, son of Muniyappan of Paichalli village. He was a Class II student at Dawn Shiksalaya School, Dharmapuri.Around 9am, Yasiriyan accompanied his father to Dharmapuri railway station to see off relatives who were to travel on the Bengaluru–Ernakulam Express train. As the train halted at platform No. 2, Muniyappan and Yasiriyan boarded the train along with their relatives. The train had only a two minutes’ halt at Dharmapuri station.As the train was moving, Muniyappan tried to alight from it carrying his son. Muniyappan slipped, and both fell into the gap between the train and the platform. The boy was fatally crushed. His boy’s body was severed into two.Muniyappan sustained serious injuries, including a leg fracture. He was rushed to Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The child’s body was sent to the same hospital for postmortem.The Dharmapuri railway police registered a case and began investigations.
