Chennai: AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran on Saturday accused TVK govt of plunging the state into darkness through administrative failures in the power sector and questioned its repeated explanations of maintenance work and technical faults for unscheduled power cuts.Referring to power outages at the Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai during separate visits by vice-president C P Radhakrishnan and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, Dhinakaran said the incidents exposed negligence and administrative lapses in the electricity department.Dhinakaran alleged that TNPDCL, despite protests over unscheduled power cuts, had refused to acknowledge the complaints. The utility had offered contradictory explanations for the temple outage — first attributing it to maintenance work and later to a technical fault, he claimed. He said the shifting explanations were an attempt to cover up the department’s failure.Dhinakaran also cited several controversies involving the electricity department, including erratic power supply, billing, smart meter tenders, contractual recruitment and a proposed tender for costly power purchases that was later withdrawn following public criticism.
