Younger, dynamic Democratic leaders dealt a decisive blow to Trumpism

The U.S. mid-term elections have delivered a damning mandate against Trumpism. After Richard Nixon and Watergate, Donald Trump is the first to accomplish a Republican rout of this scale and scope. The Democratic Party flipped seven Senate seats, 22 House seats, and four Governor seats, and has won a majority in both House and Senate.

Trump’s wars — the Iran war and the tariff war — resulting in steep costs of fuel and food are the most obvious catalyst for this “Blunami (tsunami for Democrats)”. Rural voters opposed data centres (promoted by Trump), fearing it would guzzle water as well as jobs. That’s an AI-era issue to watch as data centres make their way into India.
