Calf beaten to death at farm near Sulur; probe on

Coimbatore: A seven-month-old calf was beaten to death with an iron rod by unidentified men who trespassed into a farm at Kangeyampalayam near Sulur in the early hours of Monday. Several chickens and roosters were also stolen from the farm.Police said the incident took place at a farm located near Marappalam along the Coimbatore-Tiruchi highway. Cattle and poultry are reared at the farm owned by Mohan, of Kangeyampalayam.According to the complainant, he had locked the farm on Sunday night and left for his residence. However, when he returned on Monday morning, he found the calf which was tied inside a shed beaten to death with an iron rod. Two other cattle were also found assaulted with hollow blocks, while some chickens and roosters were stolen.Meanwhile, police said the accused had left behind their shirts, objects used in the assault, and other material evidence at the farm. “Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack and theft,” said an officer. Sulur police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
