Chennai: Actor Varshini Venkat was arrested by Guindy police on charges of cheating, intimidation and extortion, after a 26-year-old man lodged a complaint saying she refused to return ₹5 lakh given for a short-film project.Police said that when he wanted the money back, she called him to a star hotel at Guindy on Aug 22. She and her three associates threatened him and took ₹50,000 in cash and mobile phones from him. He later transferred another ₹5 lakh to her. When he refused to pay them another ₹27 lakh, they threatened to shoot him, police said.On the man’s complaint, police registered a case against Varshini and others. They arrested and remanded the Tamil actor in judicial custody.
