Chennai: Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Taylors Road, has launched an initiative to plant and nurture 75,000 trees as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Chinmaya Mission.Named ‘Chinmaya Amritavanam’, the initiative was launched during the school’s 59th Annual Day celebrations and aims to create a long-term green legacy by planting 1,000 trees for every year of the mission’s journey.The initiative was inaugurated by V Karunapriya, IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Managing Director, TAFCORN.Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) has committed to receive 5,000 saplings for green belt development at Amullavoyal in Manali. Sriram Vishwanathan, Chief General Manager (HSE), CPCL, received a sapling on behalf of the company, marking the first major commitment towards the target.The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is also partnering with the school for the initiative. A sapling was presented to an NHAI zonal representative during the launch to symbolise the partnership.The school said the programme would focus not only on planting saplings but also on nurturing them into trees, with students and the wider community being involved in environmental stewardship.
