Chennai: The Chennai Traffic Police announced traffic diversions and parking arrangements in Besant Nagar for the Annai Velankanni Church festival, scheduled from Aug 29 to Sept 8.The flag-hoisting ceremony and Chariot Procession will be held on Aug 29 from 4.30pm, while the Grand Chariot Procession will be held on Sept 7 at 7.30pm. The flag-lowering ceremony will take place on Sept 8. The processions will cover roads around 6th Avenue (Beach Road), 2nd Avenue, 3rd Avenue, 4th Main Road and 7th Avenue.Vehicles from ECR and OMR will be diverted through Adyar Bus Depot, Indira Nagar 2nd Avenue and Indira Nagar 1st Main Road towards LB Road. Buses will use MG Road and Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road.Parking will be available at Olcott Memorial Higher Secondary School, Arignar Anna Government Higher Secondary School, Besant Nagar 2nd Main Road, 4th Avenue and 17th Cross Street. Police advised motorists to avoid Elliot’s Beach and adjoining areas on the three procession days due to expected crowding.
