NAMAKKAL: The Kumarapalayam police in Namakkal district have seized a total of 186 kg of banned gutkha products from a shop and a vehicle near Kallangattu Valasu bus stop and arrested a man.Based on a tip-off, a team headed by sub-inspector M Gautham carried out a raid at a shop on Tuesday night. “We found 84 kg of gutkha kept in sacks in the shop,” the SI said.He said while checks were under way, two men arrived there in a car. They ran away on noticing police. The team checked the vehicle and found 102 kg of gutkha packets in it.T Dharmaraj, 53, who was at the shop, was arrested. Police questioned him and came to know that the men who escaped were his brother Prabhakaran of V Mettur and Ravindran of Kalingarayanpalayam.The seized gutkha and the car were presented before the Kumarapalayam judicial magistrate court. Dharmaraj was remanded in judicial custody.
