Two Coimbatore youths killed in bike accident near Pollachi

Coimbatore: Two youths died in a road accident on the Coimbatore-Pollachi Main Road on Sunday morning.The deceased have been identified as M Siva Shankar, 21, a two-wheeler mechanic from Kuniyamuthur, who was riding the bike; and A Abip John, 21, from Ukkadam, an employee at a car accessories shop, who was riding pillion. They were part of a group of friends heading on a trip to Valparai.Police said the accident took place around 9:20am near the Cheran Nagar Arch on Pollachi Road. “Siva Shankar was riding the motorcycle at high speed, and lost control while negotiating a curve. The bike crashed into the central median and crossed over to the opposite lane, where it was hit by an oncoming private bus,” said a police officer from Mahalingapuram station. He added that both suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. Police recovered the bodies and sent them for a postmortem at the Pollachi Govt Hospital.Meanwhile, a bus passenger, T Sivakumar, 47, from Salem, suffered minor facial injuries and is being treated at the govt hospital in Pollachi. A case has been registered and an investigation initiated.
