Krishnagiri: In a challenging rescue effort near Bagalur in Hosur, fire and rescue teams saved a 60-year-old woman who had fallen into the Thenpennai River, on Sunday. In recent days, the river has been receiving heavy inflow from Karnataka along with foul-smelling chemical froth.The woman, identified as Pappamma from Gangapuram, was carried by the current after she fell into the river. “She was, however, able to hold on to a rock about half a kilometre downstream the Bagalur bridge, till we rescued her,” a firefighter said.Locals who spotted her, alerted Bagalur police and Hosur fire and rescue services personnel. A firefighter swam into the fast-moving water, tied ropes around the woman, and brought her out by carrying her on his back, as colleagues on the bank pulled them both to safety. After the rescue, she was taken by 108 ambulance to Hosur Government Hospital, where her condition is said to be stable.Bagalur police have registered a case and are investigating if she fell by accident or it was a case of attempted suicide.
