Krishnagiri: A 65‑year‑old man was attacked by a wild elephant near Thinnur, close to Maharajakadai in Krishnagiri district on Sunday morning.Forest officials said the man identified as M Rajappa suffered serious injuries to his leg and hip after the elephant suddenly charged at him and attacked him. Locals rushed him to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College Hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.Meanwhile, angry villagers staged a road blockade on the Maharajakadai-Kuppam Road, calling for prompt steps from the forest department to push stray elephants back into the deep forest and ensure that such incidents do not recur.“We cannot live in constant fear. Forest officials must chase these elephants back into the deep forest before more lives are lost,” said J Abdullah, a villager. Another protester and farmer K Mani added, “Our crops are being destroyed, and now people are being attacked. We urge authorities to act swiftly and protect us.”Protesters later dispersed after forest department officials held discussions with them and assured of addressing their concerns.
