COIMBATORE: The Thadagam police in Coimbatore district have registered a case against a group of individuals for verbally abusing and issuing death threats to a local BJP functionary and his brother following a dispute over a Facebook post. The complainant, K Chandrasekar, 35, of Hanumanth Street in Pannimadai, works as a car driver and serves as the BJP west zone secretary for Periyanaickenpalayam.According to the complaint, Chandrasekar came across derogatory remarks about the BJP posted on Facebook by an acquaintance named Poovaithangam on Oct 23. In response, Chandrasekar posted counter-comments on the platform. Angered by this, two individuals named Kamalnath and Selvam contacted Chandrasekar on the phone, demanding that he delete his posts immediately. They allegedly hurled abusive language and threatened to kill him if they met in person.Around 11.30pm the same night, the group called Chandrasekar again, claiming that they were waiting outside his ancestral house in Pannimadai. Chandrasekar sent his younger brother, Sureshkumar, 31, to check on the situation.Upon arriving, Sureshkumar found Poovaitangam, Kamalnath, Selvam, Kameswaran and several others waiting with their vehicles. The group confronted Sureshkumar, demanding that he wanted to know Chandrasekar’s whereabouts while verbally abusing him. When a local resident named Akash intervened to break up the altercation, Selvam picked up a log and threatened to strike Sureshkumar. The group also attempted to force Sureshkumar into their vehicle and abduct him until Chandrasekar arrived. However, as residents gathered and raised an alarm, the gang fled the scene in their vehicles.Following a complaint filed, the Thadagam police registered a case and began investigations.
